LIVE REVIEW: THE FRAY – SUMMER OF LIGHT TOUR @ SYNOVUS BANK AMPHITHEATER AT CHASTAIN PARK, ATLANTA, GA – AUGUST 5, 2026

A little passing rain was not enough to dampen the spirits as The Fray brought their Summer of Light Tour to Atlanta. Gathering a crowd of original fans and newer listeners alike, the night unfolded into an intentional blend of nostalgia and fresh artistic direction, taking the audience on a journey through where the band has been and where they are heading next.

The night started with Colony House, setting an ideal tone for the heavy-hitting lineup ahead. Their bright indie-rock melodies and warm, nostalgic guitar lines resonated through the venue. Bringing dynamic physical energy right out of the gate, the band made full use of the stage, pacing and moving across to draw the early crowd into the fold.

Next up was Dashboard Confessional, whose signature early-2000s rock anthems proved to be another seamless match for the evening’s billing. Frontman Chris Carrabba kicked off the set solo beneath the lights before the rest of the band joined in to fill out the song. The audience was super into it as the amphitheater packed with fans singing along to every word. Carrabba also led the venue through coordinated chants and got the crowd to clap along, pushing the energy level in the room way up.

When it was time for The Fray, dense fog swept across the stage as light silhouetted the band members, who began playing beautifully before lead singer Joe King emerged to deliver the title track of their latest record, “A Light That Waits.” The visual production was striking from the start, featuring light trails dancing across the LED screens and sharp beams piercing through the atmospheric haze. That moody, immersive aesthetic carried into the next few tracks as King picked up his guitar. In introducing “Look After You,” King gave a shoutout to all the lovers in the audience, noting that the band has been performing that track for two decades. The audience sang along fervently. 

The tempo and energy surged with “Little House,” transitioning into a thunderous reaction for “Over My Head (Cable Car),” where the audience grew so loud you could hear them outside the venue. They completely took over an entire chorus of that song on their own. The mood then later shifted into something intimate with a cover of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You,” as the stage lights dimmed into a soft pink glow. Returning to their catalog with the classic “Never Say Never,” the performance built from a quiet start into a full production, getting hands swaying across the venue.

From that point forward, the momentum never let up. Before launching into “She Is,” King took a reflective moment to acknowledge how their debut album changed their lives forever, honoring this track as the very first song from that record. For “Love Don’t Die,” the stage lit up in dramatic red lighting following a bold piano intro, with each band member receiving a dedicated spotlight as King introduced them with genuine praise. King then jumped into the audience for “My Heart’s a Crowded Room,” stepping off the stage and climbing over rows of seats to venture deep into the venue. Any fans who were still seated immediately rose to their feet, which was a natural transition to the main set’s closer, the band’s massive hit “You Found Me.”

As the band stepped off, orchestral music filled the air to sustain the atmosphere while the audience waited for the encore. Returning to roaring applause, The Fray launched straight into their career-defining single, “How to Save a Life.” Taking a moment before the final song of the night, King offered heartfelt gratitude to the crew and amphitheater staff, then welcomed Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba and several others back out for a collaborative rendition of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends,” bringing a great night of nostalgia and fresh energy to a wholesome close.
