Wife of Weezer Bassist Shot by Police, Booked for Attempted Murder Amid Hit-and-Run Search

Jillian Lauren, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police on Tuesday and later arrested for attempted murder during a pursuit of hit-and-run suspects in Los Angeles.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, the California Highway Patrol had called for backup around 3:50 p.m. while tracking down three individuals involved in a hit-and-run incident. The suspects fled into a residential neighborhood near Eagle Rock.

While officers were searching the area, one suspect was seen fleeing toward the backyard of a home on the 5300 block of Waldo Place. As police entered the yard, they spotted Lauren—identified in the report as Jillian Shriner—standing in a neighboring yard holding a handgun.

Officers reportedly issued multiple commands for Lauren to drop the weapon. When she allegedly pointed the firearm at them, police opened fire and struck her in the shoulder, according to TMZ.

Lauren then retreated into her home and later emerged alongside her family’s babysitter. She was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police recovered a 9mm handgun at the scene.

Though Lauren was ultimately booked for attempted murder, investigators confirmed she was not connected to the hit-and-run case. Two of the original suspects remain at large.
