The weather in Atlanta was almost as cool as Interpol bringing the second leg of their North American tour to The Eastern on October 16th. It was a black tie affair with support from DIIV.
DIIV started off moody and thoughtful, with songs off their new album ‘ZIRP!’ releasing fully on October 30th. Admittedly as a fan I was ecstatic when they ripped the first notes of ‘Doused’, the energy from the crowd agreed with me. You can count on DIIV for driving progressions, and getting absolutely lost in their world. Their lead guitarist Andrew Bailey is like a mad scientist with the riffs, and has a sense of effortless control. Zachary Cole Smith has longing vocals bringing you along into their wall of sound created with Colin Caulfield on bass and Ben Newman on drums.

I talked to some fans to get a clear understanding of what Interpol means to them. Demi told me that Interpol is the epitome of New York sound. While The Chameleons and The Walkmans are important influences; Interpol took this sound and culture, and turned it into something with longevity. Alex has his own tattoo of the bands album art, and is the father to Julian named after Julian Dorio. His mom Karen couldn’t believe he didn’t remember his first Interpol show.. while he was still in her belly.
One barricade family said she hopes her daughter looks back and says, “Oh my gosh, my mom brought me to Interpol!” Obviously the fans are just as enduring as the music, and after the first thirty seconds I understood why. Interpol came in strong and beautiful, alongside the whole room singing along to every song. Shout out to the lighting department as well, for the vibe control and immense show that accompanied the music perfectly.

Overall this is a show I left grateful to have experienced, and one you should undoubtably catch.
