The Flaming Lips Announce Massive 20th Anniversary Edition of ‘At War With The Mystics’

The Flaming Lips are celebrating two decades of At War With The Mystics with an expansive new deluxe edition arriving November 13 through Rhino and Warner Records.

Originally released in 2006, At War With The Mystics followed the success of Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots and found the band continuing to push deeper into psychedelic rock, electronic textures, orchestral sounds and unconventional pop.

The album produced fan favorites including “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song,” “Free Radicals,” “It Overtakes Me” and “The W.A.N.D.,” while capturing The Flaming Lips at one of the most creatively adventurous points of their career.

The upcoming 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition goes far beyond a remastered version of the original record.

The six-CD collection includes 19 previously unreleased demos, 14 previously unreleased studio recordings and another 42 non-album tracks pulled from B-sides, alternate versions, radio sessions, soundtracks, compilations and other projects from the era.
Also included are two major live recordings from 2006.

U.F.O.s At The Zoo, recorded in Oklahoma City, and the previously unreleased Live At The Hollywood Bowl will both appear on CD. The Hollywood Bowl performance features songs including “Race For The Prize,” “Free Radicals,” “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots,” “The W.A.N.D.,” “Do You Realize??” and a cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

Among the previously unheard material is “The Sound Of Failure (2 Demos),” which has been released ahead of the collection.

The deluxe package also digs deeper into the wider creative period surrounding At War With The Mystics, including music recorded for movies, television projects and other releases, along with covers, alternate mixes, radio sessions and early versions that offer a closer look at how the album developed.

The Flaming Lips will release At War With The Mystics: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition on November 13 in 6CD, 6LP and digital formats.

The CD and vinyl editions have been configured differently, with the complete collection of material from the CD edition expected to eventually be released across vinyl editions as well.

Pre-orders are available now.
